My art has been formally protested!
28/01/09
All I can say right now is WOW.I recently received a letter from the gallery showing my artwork in Laramie, FLUX Studios Art Gallery. They received a formal complaint to take down my art! Here is the letter they received:
To Flux Studios
I, Daniel representing all of my friends, would like to formally protest the “art” displayed in your establishment. They are very offensive to us (including 3 18-year-old men, and 1 17-year-old). I know countless others living in town that are equally offended by this type of nude display. On behalf of all of them, I would like to request that you dispense with such display. Please feel free to contact me at 307-(left blank so I don’t get sued).
Thanks,
Daniel age 18
I want to laugh, and at the same time, I want to cry. Why is it that religious people find the human body (one of God’s most beautiful and adored creations) to be so offensive? I have always displayed the human body tastefully, in a non-sexual way. These people did not even take a second to contemplate the deep meaning behind every painting… the real emotions, the real struggles and issues portrayed.
To any self-righteous, judgmental ass-holes out there, I say this:
Forced innocence breeds naivety
Naivety breeds ignorance
Ignorance breeds HATE.
What I find offensive is people who tell you you’re going to hell for being who you are.
What I find offensive is people who judge you when their own God tells them all have sinned and that they should love and NOT judge!
What I find offensive is a blatant disregard for anyone different than yourself… this behavior and mindset brings war, hate, prejudice, death and destruction of all things good.
Get real you haters!!!
But, at least my art is having an impact! People so far have either loved it or hated it, but very few have been ho-hum about it. So thank you, Daniel, for encouraging me to keep painting!!!
I should mention that the owner of the gallery informed Daniel that he should expect more nudity at his gallery in the future!
