What’s Up With These Lesbian Paintings?!?
There is a little hype floating around about The Pink Triangle and my intentions behind the line of lesbian paintings. Here is some information about:
1. My intentions
2. My plan
3. How you can help
1. My intentions
Originally, I was inspired by Lesbian culture by the movie "Boys Don't Cry". It really got me thinking about the LGBT community, and our civil rights movement towards equality as a nation.
I read books and talked with lesbians about life, love and relationships. In short, I was astonished with the emotional intensity of the love between women in these relationships, and as a result I was inspired to paint that aspect of the LGBT community which has been trivialized and exploited by Hollywood if you ask me.
I decided that I wanted to be different in that I was going to respect the Lesbian community by depicting women together in a non-pornographic light. I wanted to market this line to women. I wanted to honor these women for being so strong as to be out and open in a conservative society in the name of love.
My intent for this line, therefore, is to depict the emotional love between two women in a non-pornographic light in respect and honor towards the Lesbian community.
2. My Plan
As I began to ponder marketing avenues, I also thought of how I may impact society with these paintings. I wanted to do more than create a few paintings to hang and collect dust in well-to-do Lesbian homes and make a gallery rich.
I decided I wanted this line to raise awareness about how genuine these relationships can be, and that same-sex couples should have equal rights!
Then I decided I wanted to impact the LGBT community by raising money with this line. The percentage is still in the air, but I want to donate around 40% to 60% of the sales of these paintings (maybe more) to a non-profit LGBT Organization against Prop 8; Such as Lambda Legal and similar organizations.
With the backing of an organization of this nature, we would work together with an Auctioneer to have a large gala event to raise awareness nationally and auction off the paintings.
First I will find an Auctioneer/Gala Event Planning Service who would be on board with my goals for the event: National appeal, black-tie celebrity attracting huge Gala Auction Event. After seeing what down-payment is needed, we then would need to get donations from organizations and celebrities to pay for upfront costs, then with ticket sales and the auction the event should pay for itself and still raise funds in the six digit range for gay rights!
3. How You Can Help
I need help and support to make this happen. There are many ways you can help:
-Spread the word about my plan, I can send you flyers.
-Buy prints, the proceeds will benefit the cause.
-Talk to your local LGBT Representatives about my plan and whether they would support it.
-Write/ email famous Lesbians and LGBT supporters about my plan. Imagine if we got Ellen’s support?!?
-If I am the only artist auctioning my work, that really limits the amount of funds that can be raised. I am looking for other artists to join me in this cause who feel the same way; that gay rights are as important as women’s rights and African-American rights and so on.
Any suggestions, input, praise, protest or help would be much appreciated.

Let's make something happen to impact society with relevant art.
Much love,
-Forrest
